Through analysis of real traffic and active detection data, it was found that the performance problems that often occur in Japan's native IP nodes include: high round-trip delay (RTT), unstable packet loss rate, obvious jitter, and reduced throughput during access peaks. These problems are often related to poor interconnection relationships, link saturation, and queue management strategies of intermediate network devices.
In response to the above phenomenon, it is recommended to start from two levels: first, optimize interconnection, increase direct connections or dedicated lines between major ISPs and CDN nodes, and reduce AS hop count and asymmetric routing; second, optimize queue management and congestion control on the node side (such as enabling AQM/RED, adjusting TCP windows and congestion control algorithms, supporting BBR), and deploy monitoring alarms to automatically expand capacity when link utilization is abnormal.
Question 2: Why is the geographical location inconsistent with the actual access source (GeoIP deviation)?
There are three main reasons for geographical deviation: the IP library is not updated in time, the original ownership of the IP segment is changed but not synchronized, and the use of cross-regional IP segments or cloud services causes the return to the source path to be detoured. For services targeting Japanese users, Japanese native IP being incorrectly determined to other countries will cause traffic to take differentiated routes, increase delays, and trigger compliance and content distribution policy errors.
It is recommended to regularly check and update the GeoIP database, communicate with the upstream ISP or IP broker to confirm the physical ownership of the IP segment; introduce a geographical routing strategy (RUM+Anycast) based on real-time detection at the DNS and CDN layers, and perform routing blacklist/whitelist verification on key business paths to ensure that customer requests land on the real Japanese edge nodes first.
Question 3: How do TLS/handshake, certificate and security-related issues manifest themselves in native IP nodes, and how can they be optimized?
Common security issues on Japan native IP nodes include TLS handshake delays, incomplete certificate chains, OCSP/CRL query timeouts, and TLS version/suite mismatches leading to increased reconnections. The above problems will amplify user-perceived latency, especially in mobile networks or high packet loss scenarios.
Optimization suggestions: Enable HTTP/2 and TLS1.3 to reduce the number of round trips; use OCSP Stapling and certificate prefetching to reduce online queries; deploy complete certificate chains and intermediate certificate caches at edge nodes; use TLS session tickets or session recovery for the handshake process to reduce the cost of frequent handshakes; and add TLS handshake success rate and certificate expiration alarms to monitoring.
Question 4: Regarding DNS resolution and CDN caching strategies, what are the common problems and improvement measures for native IP nodes?
Instable DNS resolution, inappropriate POPs resolved, and low CDN cache hit rate are common problems. Part of this is because the DNS load balancing strategy relies on resolver IP addresses originating from other regions, causing Japanese clients to be directed to non-optimal nodes; other reasons are that caching rules are not hierarchical, causing static resources to frequently return to the origin.
It is recommended to use resolution based on EDNS-client-subnet or a localized DNS resolver combined with RUM data for regional scheduling; implement a hierarchical caching strategy in the CDN configuration, extend the TTL of static resources, and make differentiated return-to-origin rules for dynamic and static content; deploy a dedicated DNS cluster in Japan for important domain names and enable health check and fast failover.
Question 5: What are the problems in compliance, IP reputation and operation and maintenance, and how to maintain node quality in the long term?
The Japanese market has higher requirements for IP reputation and compliance. Frequently seen issues include IPs being blacklisted, PTR/reverse DNS not being configured, and inconsistent WHOIS information leading to abuse complaints. Improper long-term maintenance will affect email delivery, API call success rate, search engine indexing, etc.
It is recommended to establish an IP asset management system: apply for and maintain standardized WHOIS and PTR records, regularly clean up and rotate abused or contaminated IP segments; establish a reporting mechanism with local Japanese authorities, ISPs, and security vendors to quickly eliminate false positives; at the same time, implement continuous proactive security scanning and reputation monitoring (Spam, Botlists), and incorporate the results into business scheduling and IP allocation strategies.
